Sapphire FUE hair transplant

We explain in plain language how we perform Sapphire FUE, what the sapphire tip does and does not change, and how we work in the donor area.

What is Sapphire FUE?

Sapphire FUE is not a separate method; it is a form of FUE in which we open the channels for the grafts with a sapphire-tipped blade.

As in FUE, we take the grafts from the donor area one by one. We open the channels in the recipient area with a sapphire-tipped blade instead of a steel one, then place the grafts into these channels.

Sapphire tip or steel tip: what is the difference?

A sapphire-tipped blade is an alternative to a steel blade for opening the channels. What changes is the tool that opens the channel; the grafts are harvested and placed just as in FUE. We choose which tip to work with based on your recipient area and the experience of the doctor performing the procedure.

The sapphire tip alone does not mean a better result for everyone. What matters is not the tip that opens the channel, but your hair type, your donor area and the right planning. Because results vary from person to person, we do not make promises based on the sapphire tip.

What gives this procedure its name is the tip that opens the channels, not a separate method. We compare sapphire and steel tips in detail in our article channel opening: sapphire vs steel tips.

Is the donor area shaved?

In FUE, we often shave the donor area. This way, we work with a full view of the area.

If you want an unshaven procedure

If you want a transplant without cutting your hair short, we describe the options on the long-hair and unshaven hair transplant page. Whether it suits you is decided by the doctor during the examination.

The process and aftercare

The process follows these steps: initial call, examination and planning, the day of the procedure, and follow-up. On the day of the procedure, we harvest the grafts under local anesthesia. An authorized physician opens the channels with a sapphire-tipped blade; we then place the grafts into these channels.

In the days after the procedure, you may notice redness, mild swelling or scabbing. We give you written aftercare instructions on washing, sleeping and returning to daily life; follow those instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sapphire FUE a separate method?

No. Sapphire FUE is a form of the FUE method. The name “Sapphire” refers to the tip of the blade that opens the channels for the grafts.

What is the difference between Sapphire FUE and DHI?

The difference lies in how the grafts are placed. In Sapphire FUE, we first open the channels with a sapphire-tipped blade and place the grafts afterward; in DHI, we use an implanter pen. We decide during planning which one suits you.

Can Sapphire FUE be done unshaven?

In some plans, we do it with a partial shave. If you want a transplant without cutting your hair short, let us know during the initial call; the doctor decides during the examination whether it suits you.
