Frequently asked questions about hair transplants

We answer the most frequently asked questions about hair transplants briefly and clearly. You will find the details on the related pages; we go over your individual questions together during an initial call.

Before the procedure

Who can have a hair transplant?

The basic requirement for a hair transplant is enough healthy hair in the donor area. During the examination, we also look at the cause of your hair loss and how it is progressing. Not everyone is suitable for a hair transplant; the doctor who examines you decides on suitability.

Who may not be suitable for a hair transplant?

At what age can a hair transplant be done?

There is no single age that applies to everyone. In younger people, hair loss can continue to progress; that is why we consider your age together with the course of your hair loss when we make the plan.

Which method is right for me?

How many grafts are needed?

The number of grafts depends on the size of the recipient area, the density of your donor area and the density we aim for. That is why we do not give a fixed number in advance; we determine the number you need during the examination, as we make the plan.

Will my hair be cut?

That depends on the plan that suits you. In a long-hair and unshaven hair transplant, we do not cut your hair short, or we cut it short only in narrow areas that the hair above will cover. In other plans, the donor area may need to be shaved.

Procedure day

Does it hurt?

We carry out the procedure under local anesthesia. What you feel while the anesthetic is given and in the days that follow varies from person to person. Before the procedure, you will discuss with your doctor how pain will be managed.

What happens on the day of the procedure?

How long does it take?

The duration depends on the recipient area, the number of grafts and the method. Unshaven plans usually take longer. We tell you the approximate duration for your case during planning.

After the procedure

When can I return to work?

This depends on the type of work you do, how you heal and the plan used. During planning, we discuss with you when you can return to work.

After the procedure: returning to work, washing, shock loss

When is the first wash?

We explain when and how to do the first wash in the written aftercare instructions we give you after the procedure. You may read different timings elsewhere; follow your own instructions.

What is shock loss?

It is the temporary loss of some of the transplanted hair, or of the hair around it, in the weeks after the procedure. When it happens and to what extent varies from person to person. If you have any questions, ask us at your follow-up appointment.

When can the result be seen?

This is a process that takes patience. It takes months for new hair to grow, and when the result becomes clear varies from person to person. We review your progress together at follow-up appointments.

Initial call and cost

Why is the cost specific to each person?

The cost depends on the number of grafts you need, the method and the scope of the procedure. That is why we do not publish prices on this site. After the initial call and planning, we share cost information tailored to you.

What determines the cost?
